It is about 2 and ½ hours to opening of the spring musical,All Shook Up, and I’m back in the office after a quick run off the hill and outfor food. The show is fun – very upbeat –and I think it will be well received by the audience (the middle schoolers whosaw it yesterday certainly liked it). The year is near over and I can’t believe next week is the last weekwith the seniors. The Thespian class of2009 will be dearly missed. We have theThespian Ceremonies next Saturday and the cookout at Coonskin on Sunday; I’mlooking forward to those. My semester inMU’s Doc. program is at a close and my grades as an MU Graduate schoolprofessor are, for the most part, done. Almost time to breathe a sigh of relief before the summer starts and anew semester begins a new for me. Hopefully the futures sees the CHS graduates keeping in touch and movingon to happiness and me one step closer to a Doctorate.

What a great first week of school! CHS Theatre had a nice showing yesterday in the Regatta Funeral Parade; I think that may need to become a CHS Theatre tradition. I?m very happy with the cast for Dracula; we read Act 1 as a group on Friday and I was very happy with the preliminary voices. It will be lots of work but the group is up to the challenge. Still working on the schedule but the Google Calendar is pretty up-to-date and a good resource. I have British dialect scripts for Advanced Acting at the ready so we?ll start on that this week. Intro will begin Storytelling work by discussing the history of theatre and the role of the storyteller in ancient cultures. They will also get on stage and practice using the space, their bodies, voices, and props to tell simple stories. Tech will build and clean because that?s what we do in tech! Directing and PR will be working on finalizing organization of the office space as well drafting press releases and conducting interviews regarding the Performing Arts Holiday. Busy, busy, busy!

The summer is almost over and it has been a busy one here. I have a portfolio presentation to my doctoral committee chair tomorrow; very preliminary as I?m still in the early stages. Yes my lovely theatre students, I?ve spent the summer doing homework, and I mean LOTS AND LOTS of homework. However, I know things I didn?t know before and feel better prepared to be a really good teacher and a productive global citizen every day, and isn?t that really what it is all about? See you all next Tuesday! Oh, and don?t forget to get a wonderful costume together for the Funeral Parade next Saturday! Decorate an umbrella.
